Dr. Steve Atkinson, DDS

Dr. Atkinson has been in dentistry for more than 40 years. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Dental School in 1971 and set up practice in Rolla shortly thereafter. From the beginning, Dr.  Atkinson's primary goal was to provide dental care that was as painless as possible.  As a child, Doctor had the same frightening, painful dental experience that many people have had. Those experiences were his inspiration for developing gentle, virtually painless dental techniques.  

Dr. Atkinson and his wife, Holly, spent the early years of their marriage working together to make Atkinson Dental Clinic the success it is today. Holly is a Certified Dental Assistant as well as a Marketing Consultant. She worked both as Dr. Atkinson's chair-side assistant and his chief marketing coordinator before "retiring" in 1998 to pursue her career as a freelance writer and manager of the Atkinson's other business: Greenwood Farms, LLC.

Family is very important to Dr. Atkinson: His daughter, Julie, works for the dental clinic as webmaster of www.atkinsondental.com and his daughter-in-law, Kindra takes care of the bookwork for the clinic. Greenwood Farms is also a family enterprise, as it is the home and life's work of Steve, Holly, their daughter Julie, son David & his wife Kindra, and son Rob, Rob's wife Sine (pronounced Sheena), and granddaughter Ava. He is also close to his youngest daughter, Callie, who lives with her husband Scott and daughter Anna near St. Louis.

In addition to working at the dental clinic and on the farm, Dr. Atkinson is also a photographer. All of the photos in the dental office were taken by Dr. Atkinson and many of those have been published in magazines alongside Holly's articles, or have won awards at photography shows. In the years before the farm, Doctor & Holly spent their time traveling, backpacking, and canoeing in remote wilderness areas. Holly wrote articles about their adventures and many, along with Dr. Atkinson's photos were published in magazines that include: Canoe & Kayak, Missouri Streams & Trails, Missouri Conservationist, & the Minnesota Volunteer.
